Turkana Basin Institute
Deep in Kenya’s northern frontier lies the Turkana Basin Institute, a place where ancient landscapes hold secrets that shaped our species. Here, along the shores of a vast desert lake, we will walk in the footsteps of pioneering scientists uncovering fossils and artifacts that tell the story of human evolution. We will explore dig sites and laboratories, meet researchers pushing the boundaries of knowledge, and experience the stark beauty of a region where geology, wildlife, and culture converge. ITINERARY
Day 1

Nairobi
Welcome to Nairobi!
After your airport pickup, you’ll settle into the historic Fairmont Norfolk Hotel and enjoy a relaxed morning at your leisure.
Early afternoon, we’ll visit a vibrant West African market nearby perfect for browsing textiles, jewelry, and crafts.
Later, you’ll explore the Murumbi Gallery and Nairobi Gallery, home to one of Africa’s richest collections of art and cultural heritage.
After some time to refresh at the hotel, you’ll enjoy an elegant dinner at Embark Dining, followed by optional drinks at Cin Cin Bar, a stylish finish to a cultured, restful day in the city.
Days 2&3

Nairobi N/P & TBI
The following morning will start early, with your driver collecting you from the Fairmont Norfolk at 5:30 AM for a morning game drive in Nairobi National Park. You’ll explore the park’s diverse landscapes and wildlife until around 11:00 AM, with breakfast served in the park surrounded by nature.
From there, you’ll proceed to Wilson Airport, where your 12:00 PM private charter flight will be ready to fly you north to the Turkana Basin Institute (TBI), a truly unique destination at the edge of the Great Rift Valley.
Upon arrival at TBI, you'll be met by the local team who will host you for the next three nights. The experience here is immersive and one-of-a-kind, offering a chance to engage with the landscape, people, and ongoing scientific and conservation work in this remote and strikingly beautiful region.
The TBI team will take care of all day-to-day activities, curating experiences based on your interests—whether that’s exploring the area’s natural history, visiting nearby communities, or simply soaking in the vast desert views and starlit skies.
Day 4

TBI- Meru N/P
After breakfast at TBI, you’ll board a scenic charter flight south to Meru National Park.
As the arid beauty of Turkana gives way to the lush, riverine landscapes of Meru, you’ll witness Kenya’s dramatic diversity from above.
Upon landing, your guide will be waiting to meet you for a transfer to the lodge, with a short game drive along the way.
