Rwanda

#land of a thousand hills

So named, because of its mosaic of softly undulating hills, Rwanda is a remarkable country. It is less than thirty years since its societal structure was torn apart by the 1994 genocide, but due to a process of healing and reconciliation it is now one of the most stable and welcoming countries in all of Africa, and offers compelling safaris.

Rwanda's biggest tourism draw is tracking mountain gorillas, which is conducted high up on the slopes of the Virunga massif. For many people, this represents the most memorable encounter with wildlife that they will ever have.

Other attractions, such as Nyungwe's stunning cloud forests, and the opportunity to see the big five in Akagera National Park, make it an excellent destination.
