Nairobi - Samburu- Nairobi 

Day 1: Pick up from Sankara and transfer to Wilson airport at 08:30.

Transfer to lodge from the airstrip by guide upon landing.

Afternoon game drive & sundowners

Day 2: 09:00 am game drive transfer to Reteti Elephants Sanctuary for the 11:00am feed.

Afternoon  game drive or bush-walk.

Day 3: 09:30 Tranfer to the airport for your flight back to Nairobi.

Drop off at Sankara hotel

Samburu  Reserve & Reteti Elephant Orphanage

The Samburu region, located in northern Kenya, is a breathtaking wilderness known for its rugged landscapes, rich wildlife, and the vibrant culture of the Samburu people. The semi-nomadic Samburu community is closely related to the Maasai and is renowned for their deep connection to the land and their distinctive traditions.

A highlight of the region is the Reteti Elephant Orphanage, a community-led sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned elephants. Reteti offers visitors a unique opportunity to witness the conservation efforts firsthand while supporting both wildlife and the local Samburu community.

Soroi Larsens, Samburu

After breakfast, your driver will meet you at 8:30 a.m. for a 30-minute transfer to Wilson Airport, ensuring you arrive in time for your 10:20 a.m. flight to Kalama Airstrip in Samburu. This scenic, one-hour flight lands at 11:20 a.m., where your Samburu guide will greet you and escort you on a beautiful drive to the lodge, situated in Samburu National Reserve.

 

Soroi Larsens Camp offers an elevated safari experience, inspired by the legacy of explorer Eric Larsen. Nestled beside the Ewaso Nyiro River, our boutique retreat seamlessly blends adventure and luxury in the heart of the Samburu wilderness. Each tented suite provides private river views, outdoor showers, and star beds, creating an unforgettable experience. With a foundation in sustainability and community support, Soroi Larsens Camp delivers an authentic African journey, leaving a lasting impact.

 

You’ll also have the rare opportunity to engage with the Samburu people, a semi-nomadic pastoralist community in northern Kenya renowned for their vibrant culture and close bond with their livestock. Participate in cultural exchanges, learn about their customs, and discover their deep relationship with the land and its challenges, enriched by colorful beadwork, traditional dance, and meaningful rituals.

Reteti Elephant Sanctuary

After breakfast, you will set off with your guide for Reteti Elephant Sanctuary.

Depending on your plan with your driver, you may choose to bring along a picnic lunch.

 

A visit to the nearby Reteti Elephant Orphanage is a highlight, allowing you to witness the rehabilitation of rescued baby elephants—a crucial conservation effort led by the local community.

 

This unique initiative not only protects wildlife but also empowers the Samburu people, providing guests with opportunities for meaningful interactions.

 

You’ll spend at least an hour with the baby elephants, interacting with them and learning about the project.

 

Your drive back to camp is scenic, passing through the park as you return for an afternoon siesta.

The afternoon is spent at leisure perhaps getting a spa treatment or by the pool

Day 3

Departure; Nairobi

Breakfast is at leisure. Say your goodbyes to the lodge before joining your guide for a 40-minute transfer to Kalama Airstrip, in time to catch your 11:30 am flight to Nairobi. This is a 1-hour flight.

 

Upon landing, your driver will be waiting to transfer you to Sankara Hotel for the rest of the day.

 

The day is yours to spend as you wish.

We recommend visiting the Giraffe Center to get up close and feed the giraffes while learning about their habits, or perhaps visiting the National Museum of Kenya for a fascinating look at ancient human evolution.
